Who do Pitmans’ Defamation & Reputation Management lawyers work for?

Defamation issues can affect anyone, from private individuals to big businesses, and we act for a wide range of clients across the spectrum in this sector. We provide guidance to authors and publishers in relation to ensuring that their publications are not actionable, and where disputes do arise our primary focus is on securing an outcome that serves our client’s personal and commercial interests while ensuring as far as possible that any defamatory material never achieves wider prominence.

In more serious cases, where publication cannot be prevented, we act for the victims of defamatory publication from first instruction right through (in those rare cases where an acceptable settlement cannot be secured) to attendance in the Queen’s Bench Division of the High Court. We have recently been instructed by clients in the US and Canada in relation to proceedings in this jurisdiction.

Do Pitmans’ Defamation & Reputation Management lawyers have any particular areas of expertise?

The lead Partner in this team has been practising in the field of Defamation for the past ten years. In that time, he has acted for clients in proceedings involving national newspapers, online authors and publishers in the European Union, Japan, the United States and Canada, book publishers (fiction and non-fiction) and a wide variety of other smaller scale publications.

As a Solicitor Advocate he also has significant experience of attending court on urgent interim injunctions, and is regularly in the High Court conducting interim hearings and full trials on his client’s behalf. During 2014 he is presenting a series of lectures at various locations around the country on the newly enacted Defamation Act 2013, and on Social Media in Litigation.

Why choose Pitmans’ Defamation & Reputation Management lawyers?

Few firms outside London are able to offer the depth of experience that Pitmans possesses in this field, and those within London cannot do so at the same competitive rates that we are able to offer. In addition, through the availability of in-house solicitor-advocacy, we are able to offer a true cradle to grave service in relation to disputes, and this comprehensive skill set is also reflected in our accessibility, and our ability to turn around complex and urgent work at extremely short notice.
