John has a background of over 30 years’ experience in a wide range of commercial property work, with particular expertise in the acquisition and disposal of property portfolios and all aspects of landlord and tenant lease negotiation, including acting for professional and retail occupiers with multiple sites.
John also advises a variety of major operators in the marine and harbour environment.
John has a background in, and extensive experience of, the farming and agricultural sector, and has acted for working farmers, lifestyle farmers, and some of the UK’s largest institutional investors in agricultural land.
He deals with non-contentious aspects of planning law, including advice on planning applications and applications for lawful use certificates, s. 106 agreements and unilateral undertakings.
Originally from a farming background, John is a law graduate of Cambridge University. John trained and then qualified with City firm Linklaters & Paines. He joined Southampton law firm Lamport Bassitt in 1988, where he became a partner in 1990.
