David Ainslie
Head of Trusts & Estates

David has a particularly broad range of skills, developed from experience of traditional landed estates, UK and international entrepreneurs, professional families, UK and international Wills, Powers of Attorney and care of the elderly, probate and estate management, personal trusteeships, charities and philanthropy.

Unusually for a solicitor in private practice, David also has experience gained from working in the financial sector of insurance, pensions and investment business, as well as trust company management, and FSA/FCA regulatory and compliance disciplines. During this period David was author of a textbook on tax planning with insurance.

These skills now provide valuable support for clients wanting to evaluate financial advice received from third parties, in relation to their succession planning arrangements, and in disputes with financial advisers.

David has specialist inheritance tax knowledge to underpin the succession planning advice which the typical client seeks in complex family and business circumstances. It is clarity of analysis of complex circumstances, coupled with patient explanation, that gives clients confidence to take decisions affecting their family and business matters.

Special interests

David trained with a Lincoln’s Inn practice in the 1970s, but moved to international City firm, Lovell White & King, becoming a Private Client Partner in the early 1980s.

He then moved to a leading company in the financial advisory sector, the Towry Law Group, in 1983. After 19 years rising to the main Board of that stock market listed business, David returned to Private Practice with Pitmans in 2003 as Director, Tax & Succession Planning for three years. David returned to the City as Partner in a leading charities law firm, Stone King LLP, and on retirement after five years in that post has returned to Pitmans in 2014 to work with former colleagues.

He's been really spectacular - over the top with his help, he makes himself very available.
